By adding the area of Motivation and Mental Toughness Coaching to their existing blend of Training, Nutrition and Physical Therapy, B2A can offer an even more complete package to support the wellness and well-being of their clients.

Karl will begin meeting with B2A clients on a 1-1 basis and also provide talks and classes on a variety of motivation and Mental Toughness topics over the coming months.

So what is Mental Toughness and why is it important for B2A clients?

Mental Toughness is a character trait that everyone has. It can be measured, developed and improved. Generally, it deals with one's ability to resist the urge to give up when the going gets tough.

Mental Toughness also helps in maintaining focus and determination which helps us stay better motivated, too. More specifically, it is about learning how our thinking gets in our way sometimes and what mental tools we can use to get our thinking working better for us.

Around the world, Mental Toughness skills are used by athletes, soldiers, business people and those in front line emergency services - they are even taught to children in schools to deal with pressure and stress.

So Mental Toughness is a very useful skill for the rest of us to learn and use in our everyday lives.

This is what Mental Toughness is all about. We all have it and it can be developed.

Regarding applying Mental Toughness to real life, Karl has learned a thing or two about weight loss, obesity and the mental and emotional challenges of losing weight and keeping it off over the course of his life.

Here's Karl's story:

"I grew up in an obese family in Texas. By the time I went to primary school, I was already overweight. I felt uncomfortable and self-conscious all those years. As a child, I went on diet programmes, but nothing helped. Fortunately, when I hit puberty, my weight normalised for a few years.”

Karl had a few years in his early 20s when his weight was normal.

“But in my mid-twenties, with the pressures of work and starting a family, the old eating habits returned and I began to put on weight again. I was so disappointed in myself because I thought I had beaten it."

Karl experienced significant weight gain with the stresses of life.

Karl experienced significant weight gain with the stresses of life.

"By the time I was in my early 30s, I was at least 10 stone overweight. I tried all the diets, and yo-yo dieted my way through my 30s and 40s. The effects of being obese weighed me down - not just my body, but my self esteem and confidence were at rock bottom. Those were the most difficult decades of my life."

Karl's battle with his weight continued for decades.

"Now, over the last few years, having learned how to combine exercise and proper nutrition, my weight management is much better. But I have also had to address the underlying causes of my overeating in order for my weight to become manageable again."

Karl lost the weight and keeps most of it off now.

"By developing my Mental Toughness, I have learned how to retrain my thinking and better control my impulses. I have dealt with the underlying thinking and emotions causing my eating problems."

"It is the combination of all these things that has made the difference. Over time, I lost the 10 stone and have managed to keep the bulk of it off now - as long as I manage my exercise, eating, thinking and emotions. It's a balancing act that never ends. But now I know how to do it."

"Learning how to increase my Mental Toughness has given me the self control and confidence back that I was missing all those years. It has been a life saver for me."

Now, as a coach and mentor, Karl shares with his clients what he has learned about staying Motivated and teaches others how to increase their Mental Toughness skills.

Mental Toughness skills have been used by people of all ages and backgrounds from all over the world. You can learn how to increase your Mental Toughness, too.
